GDC 2017: It is without a doubt that location-based games have transformed the market this year with blockbuster titles including Pokémon Go and Zombies, Run! taking over the world. Players young and not so young have been seen moving around streets and venues, interacting with the world around them pocketing virtual points or scanning surroundings.
Because entertainment of this kind relies on GPS for location, players are largely limited to playing outside, and poor positioning results in urban areas or inside buildings can lead to compromised game performance and gamer frustration.
